Greetings friends. As a resident of SoCo (that's south of Colesville Rd in downtown Silver Spring), I have frequented many of our fine - and not so fine - dining establishments. I thought it would be fun to set up this blog to better document the myriad food offerings in the neighborhood and to keep track of what's on the way.
However, I don't see this blog as simply a tool to review new and existing restaurants. Frankly I would not be the best person to run a review site since I'm not a big meat eater and have become pretty rigid as of late as to the types of meat/fish that I'll consume. I am trying to stick with the plan of being able to source the meat and fish I eat. If I can't do this, I typically go meatless. You may not agree with this, but being able to acknowledge where my food comes from and supporting good (i.e., not factory farms and preferably local) farms is important to me.
That being said, I do want this site to highlight a lot of what SoCo has to offer as it pertains to food. It's been amazing only over the last few years the number of new dining choices that have come to the area. And I'm really not even taking into account the Hellsworth area with Red Lobster, Macaroni Grill, etc. Although there are a few keepers over there - Lebanese Taverna, Austin Grill on a good day, and a couple others.
But away from this area is where people will find the best spots in the 'hood. And to see these restaurants thriving makes me happy since more will be on the way to fill whatever void there may be in food choices.
So welcome to the site. I hope you find it helpful and I hope to encourage you to visit some restaurants and try some new dishes you may have skipped over in the past.

Hi there Socoblogboy,
What a great addition to the Silver Spring blogosphere! I look forward to keeping track of your dining discoveries in our little corner of heaven.
Thanks,
socoblogirl
I wonder who that socoblogirl is... ;-)
I, too, am looking forward to seeing more, especially in the food sourcing department. I must admit that I don't pay much attention to it, though when presented with the option, I'll pick locally grown food any day.
Cheers!
