Just a quick note here. I walked by the original and famous Big Greek Cafe this morning and noticed a sign on the door stating they would be temporarily closed. It appears a small fire broke out the other day and so no gyros for you.
I don't have anything else to report except that they hope to re-open on Thursday (6/16). If you're planning to head over for some grub I would definitely give a call beforehand. But I guess you could always head over to the Greek Place for your fix. Just don't tell the guys at the BGC you betrayed them.

They should use it as an opportunity to upgrade. When my wife and I walk past this place and the other Greek restaurant, we always remark on how either is the last place we'd want to sit in and have a meal. Bright lights, glorified fast food setting. Both are horrible.
Back in Buffalo where I met my wife, there is a glorious Greek restaurant called Kostas. It's the kind of place you don't mind lingering in for hours.
These places? Just the opposite.
Can't argue with you on the atmosphere (or lack thereof) at Big Greek, but the food is really good! I hope you have given it a try despite the fast food setting.
Springvale, I agree with our anonymous commenter. I like the food at the BGC and am willing to put up with a no atmosphere place to eat it. That being said, I'm not gonna have dinner at the BGC, but at least for me, it fits the bill for lunch.
If I worked in the area, I'd probably eat lunch there. That said, I'll definitely try it for take-out. I remain on the hunt for a falafel place I can truly rely on (haven't found that since I left Manhattan, and don't even get me started about that little joint in Haifa).
SoCo - unrelated, but remember in a prior post that you dig the ramen. Did you see that Ran's Ramen has opened up in Wheaton?
Thanks Anon. I was not aware of Ren's opening up in Wheaton. I have some business to attend to on Wed in that part of town so I know now where I am eating lunch. I'll let you know how it is. And there's also a new ramen place called Toki Underground on H St in NE. I have yet to try it but folks seem to like it.
Ooh good tip on Toki! :) Weekend eats!
Ren's is good, somewhat salty and pricey - especially compared to what you'd get from a LA or San Francisco ramen joint. Somewhat salty but addictive. The egg they make is awesome.
